Lib Dems demand better buses

Councillor Richard Shaw is demanding better buses. Labour’s cosy deal with the bus companies has let Sheffield down. We’ve seen prices rise, routes cut and timetables slashed.

At the moment, decisions about buses are made by the ‘bus partnership’. This is a cosy backroom deal between the Labour council’s and the bus companies. Sheffield Liberal Democrats are calling for a radical shakeup of how buses are managed in Sheffield. The Lib Dems want to see a London-style contract with the bus companies which would demand more say on routes, timetables and fares.

Cllr Richard Shaw said, “We’ve seen severe cuts to public transport in our area. I want to see the community, not Labour politicians, have a say on our public transport.”

“We need to hold bus companies to account for their failures. Labour politicians are asleep at the wheel. Labour’s record on our buses is higher fares, decreased routes and shaky timetables.

“Something needs to change. I want to see a London-style bus contract which would give you more say on fares, routes and timetables. Passengers need to be in the driving seat, not Labour politicians with their cosy bus company contracts.”
