Wishing you a Happy New Year

by richardshaw on 14 January, 2016

In my first post of 2016 I would like to wish you, your friends and family my best wishes for the coming year.

I would also like to thank all of the local community volunteers who dedicate so much of their free time to support projects and people here in Sheffield. Without their help, so much that so many depend on simply would not happen – so thank you!

Over the past year I’ve visited many community events and groups – including getting my hands dirty maintaining hedges at Beauchief Abbey with the volunteers of the Beauchief Environment Group!

One of the highlights of the year for me was at the end of November, when I had the pleasure of visiting Chancet Wood Children’s Centre, where they were holding their annual Christmas Fayre.

The centre provides residential respite care for disabled children, with their annual fayre helping to raise funds for activities for the children – as well as being a fun day for the children, their families and visitors.

As the local councillor, I had the honour of judging the children’s Christmas Card competition. This was a task that I shared with Santa, who had called in to visit the children.

It was very nice to meet the staff, children and families and I would like to thank the dedicated and wonderful team at the centre for organising such a great event.

I very much look forward to this year’s event and would encourage everyone to go along and help support their great work.

With best wishes,

Richard Shaw

Liberal Democrat councillor for Beauchief, Chancet Wood, Greenhill, Lowedges, Batemoor and Jordanthorpe
