The 252 bus service, which runs from Eckington and Gleadless into Sheffield City Centre via Newfield Green and Heeley could soon be run by a different operator.
TM Travel, which currently runs the service that is joint funded by South Yorkshire Public Transport Executive and Derbyshire County Council, is trying to get out of running the service from the 1st September this year due to not making enough money. The SY PTE and Derbyshire CC are currently trying to find a replacement operator for the service, with the period for new tenders closing today (31st July).
I have already been contacted by concerned elderly residents who are worried about having to rely on the 47/48 bus service which would force them to walk long distances up and down hills to reach the bus. Some residents risk becoming more isolated without a reliable and easy link to visit friends and go shopping.
I hope that a new operator is secured as soon as possible to minimise the amount of inconvenience or distress caused to vulnerable residents. I will try to keep residents informed of any developments.
