What’s happening at the former Hemsworth school site?

Around 8 years ago the site of the former Hemsworth Primary School on Blackstock Road was cleared and cleaned up, making it suitable for redevelopment. A playing field was provided for locals to use in the meantime. Fast forward to today and the former school site is still available, however the Labour council now plan to build new houses on greenfield sites nearby, including the Norton Watertower – which would require the removal of the ancient hedges in the vicinity. Over at the cleared school site a £10,000 fence has been erected along one side of the site, behind the hedges.

Why are Labour proposing to build houses on greenfield sites which would involve the demolition of several homes – including that of a Liberal Democrat Councillor – and ancient habitats when a suitable brownfield site already exists? Why has a fence been erected along just one side of said site? Just what are Labour up to?
